ALDA
ALDA is a web platform created by speech-language pathologists for speech-language pathologists. We use language technology and artificial intelligence to convert speech to text, extract information from both recordings and transcripts, and present it in a clear and accessible way. The platform is useful for screening, diagnosis, and evaluating whether treatment is delivering results.
We can, for example, measure the length of hesitations and pauses, the complexity of morphology and syntax, vocabulary diversity, and the distribution of word classes. In just a few seconds, numerical values are obtained from language samples that would otherwise take an SLP 2-3 hours to extract manually. We are also able to measure variables that can only be analyzed using language technology.
In addition to the language sample analysis, SLPs can use ALDA to keep track of the results of standardized tests and other instruments. This creates an overview of the client's speech and language, which is useful in assessing the need for and efficacy of therapy. There are countless opportunities for technological transfer and digitization in the work of SLPs; we designed the solution that we want to use ourselves.
